The gate house building comprises an arched entrance gateway and 2 former guards houses (1 each side of the arch) providing access to the adjoining Raglan Barracks. The building is Grade 2 listed and believed to date from the mid 1850s. The exterior design includes single storey former accommodation with a central square clock tower (with a clock face on each side and various decorative architectural features plus a weather vane). There is a central vaulted archway for carriages flanked by lower vaulted pedestrian passages. The front and rear elevations are identical, each with a rounded central archway fronted by a pedimented tetrastyle Tuscan portico on pedestals (incorporating a Royal Coat of Arms to the pediment).
