As of 1 April 2019, non-domestic rates bills increased again, by the rate of inflation. For 2019/20 the standard multiplier now stands at 50.4 pence and the small business rate multiplier at 49.1 pence. This multiplier is then applied to the Rateable Value to arrive at the actual rates payable. This is undoubtably another unwanted cost increase for ratepayers at a time when many businesses are seeing rising overheads and lowering margins. However, there are numerous exemptions and reliefs potentially available to ratepayers.
Stratton Creber Commercial provide general rates advice, appeals and rates mitigation. With the Check, Challenge, Appeal procedure and the increased complexity this brings to the appeals process it is more important than ever to seek professional advice.
